Fran Drescher may be insanely famous for her nasal voice, but she also has a gift of making hit shows stemming from real life experiences. She was just a Jewish girl from Queens in the hit The Nanny, which was inspired by her growing up in Queens and..well being Jewish. The same thing happened with her 2005 show Living With Fran which was about her dating a much younger man, which was exactly what was happening in her love life. So it is no surprise that the new hit Happily Divorced is going to have real elements.
Happily Divorced is based on her marriage with Peter Marc Jacobson, who after they divorced, came out. She explains:

“It’s some of the journey that I experienced as a newly divorced person and some of Peter’s journey as a man who lived all of his adult life as a married man and suddenly finds himself trying to integrate into the gay community. But for the most part, these characters have taken on their own life. This isn’t our story at all. We actually divorced long before he came out. Truth be told, he was very -angry at me for leaving him and divorcing him. He didn’t want it and was very upset with me. When ‘The Nanny’ ended, he couldn’t get far enough away from me.”
Its good to know that even though divorce is hard and there is that anger there…you can someday resolve it and come together to still have a good friendship, let alone someday have a TV show based on it!
