Valerie Bertinelli: Getting Engaged When You’re 50

TV star Valerie Bertinelli recently got engaged while vacationing with her boyfriend, businessman Tom Vitale, in Italy.  Vitale, 48, proposed to Bertinelli, 50, during a romantic night spent in Florence.   The actress confided, “We’d talked about getting married, but I was still shocked.  It was sweet when he asked me because he was so scared.  I was like ‘Are you kidding me?’”

Both experienced the dissolution of their marriages in 2004, and began dating.   Meanwhile, Vitale felt that the time was right to propose when the couple were in Italy.  “If the time wasn’t right, I wouldn’t have asked.  We’re both still a little afraid of commitment, but then we were over there, and it was like our souls calibrated.”

Bertinelli says there’s already a wedding set for this Fall and that she’s leaving all the wedding plans up to Vitale.  “He already knows the different kinds of bells he wants to go off during the ceremony.”

As for any engagement ring details, Bertinelli is keeping her lips sealed.  But she is sure to praise her fiancée for appreciating her as she is.  “I never felt more beautiful at any weight than when Tom looks at me.  He loved me no matter what.  In his way, he’s teaching me to love myself just as I am.”

Holly Hunter Engaged?

Holly Hunter appeared on the Late Late Show this week wearing a conspicuously large diamond on her ring finger and host Craig Ferguson wasn’t about to let it go. Desperately hoping for an engagement announcement, he pressed Hunter about the ring on her finger.

“Do you have some news?” Ferguson asked. Hunter looked down at the ring and coyly sighed, “Well, you know…”
“It’s a bold statement right there.”
“I know, isn’t it, though?” Hunter added. “It’s very bold, from a very confident man.”
“He used to have money at one point, clearly. Probably not so much anymore!”

52 year-old Hunter, an Oscar winner and star of the TNT drama, Saving Grace, was married to Polish cinematographer Janusz Kaminski from 1995-2001. Since then, she has been dating actor Gordon MacDonald. Hunter surprisingly gave birth to twins in 2005 at the age of 47. She obviously tends to keep her romantic life private and not divulge too many details about her personal life, either. So we may not know if there are wedding rings in the plans anytime soon–most likely after the wedding has taken place!

Miranda Lambert Thrilled to Be Engaged

Miranda Lambert can’t help but be giddy for her upcoming marriage to country crooner Blake Shelton.  Her “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” reputation couldn’t be further from the truth!  “As bad-ass as her image is, she is 200-percent girl.”  Shelton says.  Shelton only just recently reported proposing to Lambert.  Apparently, while window-shopping for designer engagement rings earlier in the year, Lambert had her sights set on a half-million dollar pink diamond ring.  At the time, Lambert noted how he’d have to save up for a while for the costly ring, but Lambert has since accepted a a different diamond and platinum ring.    Shelton was quite traditional about the engagement process, even calling Lambert’s dad to ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage.   “That was so Southern and old-school and perfect.”  Lambert said.  And about the ring?  “He knew exactly what I wanted, so it’s so much more perfect than I could have picked out myself.”  And cheaper too!

The two were spotted at a No. 1 Party in Nashville, their first public appearance since getting engaged last Sunday.  And of course Lambert was wearing the diamond and platinum ring while clutching her pet Chihuahua, Cher.  “Being engaged ups the excitement level for us another notch.”  Shelton said.  He also added that, after five years, “everybody around us probably saw it coming.”

Blake Shelton Proposes to Miranda Lambert

Country singer Blake Shelton went the old-fashioned route when it came to proposing to girlfriend, country crooner Miranda Lambert.  “He called my dad and got his blessing first.  That was so Southern and old-school and perfect.”

Apparently Shelton also  picked out the diamond and platinum engagement ring himself. But only just a few months ago, the singer was telling US Weekly how he might have to wait a while before he proposed.  “I thought we were getting a little closer until she took me to Tiffany’s to show me the ring she wanted.  It was a $450,000 pink diamond.  I probably need to save a bit longer before I’m ready for that.”  Well, it turns out that Lambert must have forgotten about that original extravagance because she really liked the ring that Shelton himself picked out.   “I was so proud of him.  We’ve been together five years, so he knew exactly what I wanted but it’s so much more perfect than I could pick out myself.”  Probably cheaper too!

Lambert and Shelton got engaged informally, while sipping Bacardi Cokes outside his home in Oklahoma.  The ACM-Award nominated Lambert gushed, “Weddings are great and engagements are great and diamonds are especially great.  But I’m just excited to be married because I want to tell Blake I really can love him the rest of my life and be happy and make him happy.”

New Engagement for Bobby Brown

R & B singer Bobby Brown may have had a troubled fifteen-year marriage with Whitney Houston, but it seems over the past few years the singer was looking for a fresh start. He successfully cleaned up his act, was a featured guest on Celebrity Fit Club, and had a baby boy named Cassius. And this weekend Brown proposed to his girlfriend of three years, Alicia Etheridge, on stage at the Funk Fest festival concert in Metro Park, Florida. Etheridge also works as Brown’s manager. The crowd cheered and supported the two as Brown got down on one knee to offer Etheridge a sparkling engagement ring.

The engagement news was a far cry from the death rumors swirling around Twitter just a few weeks ago. A spokesperson had to step in for the singer and refute the rumors.

Houston’s camp has had no comment on Brown’s engagement. Given their years of ups and downs, and also alleged abuse, it may be better that Houston stay quiet as she wraps up her comeback tour.

How Did the Celebrities Propose?

Most celebs find the most romantic way possible to propose. Finding the right engagement ring and location are two crucial aspects to their success.  And in many cases, many celebs can’t help but choose lavish and imaginative engagement proposals.

He popped the question while the two were dining at the Jules Verne Restaurant at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The pair had an elaborately staged candlelit wedding in Italy in 2006. It is not exactly known when Cruise proposed–some say early in the morning, some say over a candlelit dinner. What is known is that Cruise proposed to Holmes with a beautiful solitaire engagement ring.

What I am feeling right now I would wish on anyone.”

Escorting Klum to an uncharted territory, Seal led Klum to a custom-built igloo atop a glacier, where he proposed to her with a ring and champagne. And with only two days before Christmas, it was the perfect time to make an announcement to all their family and friends!

Settled in the stands, Pink held up a sign that read “Will You Marry Me?” while Hart was in the middle of a race. When Hart didn’t stop, she flipped the sign to the other side, which read “I’m serious.” Hart immediately quit the race and ran over to accept the proposal.

No Wedding for Tara Reid

There’ll be no big day next month for Tara Reid as she’s called her wedding plans off.  The actress and Playboy model who has met numerous addiction rumors and has had a troubled lovelife, only issued a simple statement through her rep, saying, “Tara Reid has confirmed that she won’t be moving forward with her May 22 nuptials.”

Former fiancée Michael Axtmann proposed to Reid with a round brilliant cut diamond ring at the Little Door Restuarant in Los Angeles on January 18th.  As Axtmann got down on one knee, other restaurant patrons applauded.  The couple were planning a small ceremony for the summer after dating for less than one year.

The “American Pie” actress was previously engaged to Carson Daly in 2001, and has also dated a series of high-profile athletes, such as Tom Brady and tennis star Mark Philippoussis.  Meanwhile, Reid’s film career hasn’t exactly been booming.  Her 2005 movie, “Alone in the Dark”, tanked, as well as her E! reality show, Taradise.   In spite of the flops, Reid was still recently featured in Playboy, talking about her plastic surgery and her romantic ups and downs.

Carrie Underwood’s Wedding Plans: Stress-Free

Carrie Underwood has been on a roll for years now, making it look so easy to be a successful country singer and have a rocking love life.  And the successful country crooner isn’t going to start worrying about a little old wedding.  “We’re not people who stress about anything.  We just focus on a few of the main things and everything else is, like, whatever.”

Underwood took home the Entertainer of the Year award at this week Country Music Awards, for the second consecutive year in a row.  And while Underwood is basking in success, she’s really not going to dwell on the details.  “I don’t care what color napkins are on the table.  I don’t care.  We’re just both really laid back.  Family, food and fun, that’s all we really need.  And, oh yeah, get married.”

But it was really Underwood’s engagement ring that stole the limelight last night.  The huge diamond and sapphire engagement ring has been said to cost nearly $150,000 and engagement rings like that are hard to miss! Unfortunately, Underwood’s fiancée, hockey player Mike Fisher, wasn’t able to join Underwood for the ceremony, as he was busy playing for the Senators in Ottawa.  As she received the award, Underwood gushed, “I couldn’t ask for anything else in my whole life.  So many things have been happening and being on tour and planning a wedding.  Nights like this make life wonderful.”

Hillary Duff: ‘Relaxed’ About Getting Married

Hillary Duff’s big sister, Haylie, is revealing how the star is feeling about her upcoming marriage. “She’s really relaxed and wants something comfortable and great. She’s just so excited to be engaged.” Looks like Duff is taking the Carrie Underwood route–staying on the relaxed and chill path, not spending too much time agonizing over the details of her wedding.

Also, like Carrie Underwood, Duff is set to marry a hockey player. Her fiancé, Mike Comrie, plays for the Edmonton Oilers. The 29 year-old Comrie proposed to Duff, only 22, while vacationing in Hawaii over Christmas. Comrie has a three-year $10 million deal and was not cheap with Duff’s engagement ring, reportedly spending $1 million on it. The sparkling diamonds on the engagement ring weigh in at 4.5 carats.

And the spending spree does not end there. The couple has been shopping for homes and are just now finalizing a home in Beverly Hills for $10 million. No wonder Duff is relaxed!

Sister Haylie added, “We’ve started talking about the wedding stuff, but she’s still just really happy in this sort of phase. It’ll be a while, but it’s fun to talk about it and think about it.” Any bridezilla stories to tell, Haylie? “She’s just not the [type]. One of my other best friends got married and was a complete bridezilla, so I’m not getting the signs from Hillary that that’s the case.” Well, there’s still time for some bridezilla antics! No date has been announced yet.
