Kimora Lee Wants Liz Taylor’s Jewels

Kimora Lee as we know is larger than life, she likes to be in everything, is very extravagant and likes everything around her to be lavish and over the top. She also apparently has lots of love for Elizabeth Taylor, she liked her love of jewels and feels that Taylor is her idol. She shares with Rob Shuter from Pop Eater:

“All my life I have said this, I’m so emotional about Liz Taylor. My whole life I have really patterned after Elizabeth. She’s always been my icon. If you think about it, I can explain it forever. First she had 165 husbands, I love it. I have a good one now but I’m not against having 165 if I could. Think about my first fragrance. It’s the shape of a diamond shell with the ring around it. All that came from Elizabeth Taylor because it’s about giving you a fragrance that is lush and giving you a little something extra. With her you get a little dream or a gift on the side, I’m the same.”

Although I would not compare Liz Taylor and Kimora Lee  I can see why Lee would love her, she is the epitome of Hollywood glamour and lived her life as a true movie star. So of course it comes as no surprise that Lee is going to be front row when Taylor’s legendary jewels go sale at Christies. She continues:

“I built my entire jewelry collection with her in mind. I will definitely go and bid. The last time I went to an auction I came home with all Versace stuff. I got a lot of it. I was probably the biggest buyer. I got his bed, DNA are in those sheets!”

We will have to see how bad Lee wants those jewels, because they will be selling for a very very hefty price. No word on when the auction will be held but we do know that there will be some familiar faces there.

Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewelry Collection May Be Auctioned

With the passing of one of the most beautiful women that ever touched cinema, and loved diamonds we have to take a moment out to think about what a star Elizabeth Taylor was. Full of glamour and unbelievable beauty this two time Oscar winner left her mark on Hollywood forever.

Her love of diamonds was something that many were aware of,  but only one man made her the happiest women when it came to them, Richard Burton. Of all her marriages, this was the only man she married twice, and when he died in a plane crash she was inconsolable. At her request, at her funeral Burton’s last love letter was read out loud, then in an more romantic gesture, she was buried with it. If that is not one of the most romantic things I have ever heard…

Elizabeth Taylor’s collection of jewelry was legendary, having some of the biggest diamonds in the world for Taylor was a common occurrence, we actually recently did a post on her and her love of diamonds. Well it looks like her huge collection of jewelry will be making its way to the famous auction house Christies.

From People.com:

“Friend and celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz says such sparklers were a natural part of Taylor’s history. “The studios, in order to make her happy, they’d always give her jewelry. So she grew up collecting it,” she explains. “People always gave her gifts … it was something that she learned to love.” And she took great care of them, too. “She [had] collections and collections, and rooms. She [knew] where every single piece was. [It was] amazing.” Of all her baubles — which included the 69-carat Taylor-Burton diamond (purchased for more than $1 million) — it was the 33-carat Krupp diamond, gifted to her by fifth husband Richard Burton, that she treasured most. “She always wore it,” Sedghi recalls.”

I am very curious to see how much the collection will be sold for. We shall have to wait and see. A beautiful woman who cared deeply for many, she helped immensely within the AIDS community, was a grand actress, a beauty, and a true Hollywood great, she will be missed.

Elizabeth Taylor & Her Diamonds

Elizabeth Taylor will always be one of the most famous women when it comes to diamonds. Her love of the stone and its dazzling attributes makes her collection of flawless diamonds one of the most admired in the world. Being that Ms. Liz’s birthday just passed, we have to take a moment out to appreciate the beauty that she is and of course the diamonds she possesses.

From a stunning tear drop necklace that she wore with her famed blue dress, to her engagement ring from Richard Burton, she has lead the way when it comes to living large when it comes to jewelry. The most famous diamond of hers is, of course the 69-carat pear shaped diamond ring she got from Burton for her fortieth birthday. Taking up a good half if not more of her ring finger while still wearing her huge cushion cut engagement ring on her right hand, is something that we still marvel at. Nobody does diamonds like Ms. Elizabeth Taylor. Some of my favorite shots below.

If you wanna see more of the dazzling 69-carat diamond, you must check out this video.

Elizabeth Taylor’s Love Letters

Elizabeth Taylor has dusted off her love letters exchanged with Richard Burton and is letting Vanity Fair publish portions for its July issue.  It will be the first time that Taylor makes her love letters with Burton public and the actress will be a featured on the cover (albeit in a photo from her stunning heyday).   The only letter that Taylor was not willing to share was the letter that Burton sent her just days before his death.  Taylor actually didn’t receive the letter in the mail until a few days after Burton had died.

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton

“Richard was magnificent in every sense of the word.  And in everything he did…he was the kindest, funniest, most gentle father.”  Taylor has said.  “All my kids worshipped him.  Attentive, loving–that was Richard…from those first moments in Rome we were always madly and powerfully in love.  We had more time, but not enough.”

The love letters reveal the pair’s love-torn relationship that was often dramatic, high-strung and even silly.  In many letter, Burton calls Taylor playful names and jokes around, while also professing how much he loves her.  Their two marriages served as examples of how loving someone isn’t always enough to keep a healthy marriage.  The pair fell in love while working on the epic film, Cleopatra, in 1961, and married for the first time just three years later.  During their marriage, Burton presented Taylor with a lavish 70-carat flawless pear-shaped engagement ring, which was later named the Taylor-Burton diamond.

Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewelry from Richard Burton

Perhaps no Hollywood superstar is more associated with diamonds than Elizabeth Taylor. Not only has she owned some of the most extravagant diamonds, but she also produced a top-selling popular perfume called White Diamonds.

Krupp diamond Krupp Diamond. This exquisite piece was sold to Taylor at a Sotheby’s auction for $305,000 in 1968. It weighs 33.19 carats and is mounted on a ring. She has worn it nearly everyday and in every movie she has filmed since 1968. It was purchased for her by Richard Burton and featured an elegant Asscher cut.
Elizabeth Taylor La Peregrina La Peregrina Pearl. This large, pear-shaped white pearl has a five-hundred year anniversary. The pearl entered the Spanish Crown Jewels during the reign of King Ferdinand after being discovered by a slave in the Gulf of Panama. The pearl subsequently passed through many hands, including those of Napoleon Bonaparte, finally settling in England with the Duke of Abercorn. It was ultimately purchased by Burton for Taylor.
Taj Mahal diamond Taj-Mahal. Burton gave Taylor the heart-shaped diamond known as the Taj Mahal for her fortieth birthday. The stone is large and flat, with an Arabic inscription on either side. The piece is set with rubies and diamonds in a yellow gold-rope pattern necklace. “I would have liked to buy the Taj Mahal for Elizabeth, but it would have cost too much to transport it.” Burton joked. The gem is inscribed with the words “Love is everlasting” in Parsee.
Taylor-Burton diamond Taylor-Burton Diamond. Probably the most stunning piece of jewelry from Burton was what ultimately came to be known as the Taylor-Burton diamond, a 69.42-carat pear-shaped diamond, evenetually purchased by Cartier in a fierce bidding war. The piece was cut from a rough stone weighing 240.80 carats found in the Premier Mine in 1966. It was subsequently bought by famed jeweler Harry Winston. At the time, Winston commented “I don’t think there have been a half dozen stones in the world of this quality.” The remarkable stone was also a D-color Flawless stone.

Famous Ladies…and their Engagement Rings

Truly awesome diamonds have graced the ring fingers of royalty, actresses, and pop stars over the years. Ever since Maximillian I of Austria gave one of the first diamond engagement rings on record to Mary of Burgundy in 1477, these rings have stood for a loving commitment and an opulent reminder of the love a couple can share. Ever since those first incarnations, diamond engagement rings have become larger, more elaborate, and have come to include a whole score of different jewels and metals.

Elizabeth Taylor diamonds Elizabeth Taylor. When talking about this celebrity, we can’t simply choose one ring to mention. Taylor’s had several husbands, and a score of beautiful rings. She received a 30 carat emerald-cut diamond from Michael Todd, Taylor’s third husband. She also received a 39-carat Krupp diamond, a heart-shaped 17th-century Taj Mahal diamond, and the pear-shaped diamond of 69.42 carats given to her by Richard Burton.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip Queen Elizabeth II. We can’t forget this royal, who received a majestic engagement ring from Prince Phillip, crafted from the diamonds of his mother’s tiara. The ring features a classic 3-carat diamond set in platinum with five smaller stones.
Princess DI engagement ring Princess Diana. This royal icon received a lavish engagement ring from Prince Charles of 18-carat blue oval sapphire, surrounded by fourteen diamonds. Prince Charles originally proposed to Diana without an engagement ring. He asked her to consider the media scrutiny and royal pressures before accepting. Diana soon accepted and was presented with an assortment of engagement ring options from Garrard Jewelers, the official royal jeweler since 1843.
Madonna and Guy Ritchie Madonna. This pop icon received a three-stone antique Edwardian engagement ring from former husband Guy Ritchie. The ring featured five-carat’s worth of round diamonds. The Neil Lane-crafted ring featured a decorative platinum band with the three stones meant to represent mother, father and their son.
Paris Hilton and Paris Latsis Paris Hilton. Though she never married the Greek shipping heir, billionaire Paris Latsis, she certainly did get a whopping engagement package from him. The celebutante received two diamond engagement rings: a $5 million 24-carat canary diamond ring and a $2.1 million 15-carat white-diamond ring. When the engagement plans fell through, Hilton auctioned off the nearly $5 million ring to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. The ring sold for half its original price.

Elizabeth Taylor: No 9th Marriage!

The rumors have been bunked! 78 year-old Elizabeth Taylor hit her Twitter page this weekend to deny she’s getting married for the ninth time. “The rumors regarding my engagement simply aren’t true. Jason is my manager and dearest friend. I love him with all my heart.” News of the engagement with her 49 year-old manager, Jason Winters, was spread all over the blogosphere and tabloid press over the weekend when an anonymous source had told US Weekly that “It’s no secret that they’ve been together forever and are in love, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were engaged.”

Elizabeth Taylor

Of course Taylor is no stranger to tabloid coverage of her engagements, rumored engagements and stormy romances. Back in the Sixties, she had just as much coverage as Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie now get in the gossip rags. Her romance with Hollywood star Richard Burton was stormy and the pair divorced, only to marry again (which lasted for only a short period). Probably the most famous of her jewels was the 69-carat pear-shaped Cartier diamond, soon after renamed the Taylor-Burton diamond. And, as if that weren’t enough, Burton proposed to Taylor with the 33-carat Krupp diamond. None of Taylor’s eight engagement rings ever matched Burton’s diamond offerings.

Guests feasted on a 12-tier wedding cake and were also given personalized favors in satin-covered candy boxes that read “Liza and David 4 Ever”. The all-star pair wanted to appear as the King and Queen over the evening–and of course their wish was granted. Posh wore a tight-fitting ivory silk gown with a twenty-foot train and a gold diamond-encrusted tiara. Like Woods extravagant wedding, the Beckhams had a fireworks display and musical entertainment, this time by icon Elton John.

Engagement Ring Secrets of the Stars

Everyone knows that celebrities love to go over the top. And why shouldn’t they? With millions of dollars in their bank accounts, engagement rings for the stars can’t be cheap. Curious about some of the past splurges of some of Hollywood’s big stars? Over the years, Hollywood has seen some stones that have only matched it’s wearers in star potential.

Eva Longoria and Tony Parker

When Richard Burton proposed to Elizabeth Taylor, he sought the advice of many of the world’s top jewelers to come up with a lavish ring. Burton eventually settled on a 70-carat pear shaped diamond engagement ring that, by today’s standard may be a bit modest, but which back in the sixties was considered highly extravagant.

Tom Cruise presented Katie Holmes with a wedding in a candlelit Italian castle. The wedding ring Tom chose for her reflected a five carat oval diamond in platinum and pave settings. Meanwhile Scarlett Johansson also chose a pave setting band when she became engaged. Her engagement ring featured a three carat round diamond.

Celebrity engagement rings typically go for a sum of around $100,000, on the low end of the spectrum. Some of the more extravagant spenders will pay up to a few million dollars for their wedding rings.

Other celebrity diamond ring highlights include Ashlee Simpson’s ring, which is a 4-carat Asscher cut encircled with several smaller diamonds. An Asscher cut is a unique cut that is quite rare today. Fergie’s ring, on the other hand, was a three-carat round brilliant cut diamond in a platinum band.

But perhaps Eva Longoria’s ring is one of the highlights of celebrity engagement rings. When Longoria married Tony Parker the two exchanged nearly identical engagement rings except that his did not feature stones. The two wed romantically in a highly publicized wedding in Paris in 2007. Longoria wore a white gold band that included double rows of eighty brilliant cut diamonds, separated by a row of twenty-seven square cut diamonds.
