Couples at the Met Gala

Several celebs came to one of the fashion industry’s biggest events this week, the Met Institute Costume Gala, not only accessorized to the nines, but also bringing along a hot celebrity date.

Giselle Bundchen and jude Law

Jessica Biel of course showed up with longtime beau Justin Timberlake channeling Old School Hollywood with an ivory silk charmeuse Ralph Lauren gown and diamond earrings. On-again, off-again couple, Sienna Miller and Jude Law arrived happily together, with the formerly balding Law looking like he had a bit more hair at the event. 28 year-old Miller wore a blue Emilio Pucci dress. Seeing the couple together at the event was confirmation of their relationship and also ended a prolonged hiatus, which began when Law was caught having an affair with their nanny in 2005.

The always-vintage Gwen Stefani appeared alongside husband Gavin Rossdale on the red carpet in a thirties-inspired gold gown from her own L.A.M.B. collection. Gisele Bundchen was also there, with a Tom Ford-suited Tom Brady at her side. Supermodel Bundchen sported an Alexander Wang textured mini.

2010 Styles at the Met Costume Gala

Monday featured one of the most prestigious fashion events of the year: the Met Costume Institute Gala.  This is a chance for celebrities, moguls and fashionistas to show off the hottest and most daring styles–not an occasion to be demure and understated (Vogue hosts the event, after all).

Diane Kruger at Met Costume Gala

Oprah and Vogue editor Anna Wintour presided over the event, which celebrated an exhibition, “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity”, which celebrated women’s styles from 1890 to 1940.  Winfrey said she was quite moved by the exhibit, and then added she was planning to drink several shots of tequila afterward.  Wearing an Oscar de la Renta dress, Winfrey accompanied the designer down the carpet, eventually sharing a table with him, Mayor Bloomberg and Barbara Walters.  She accessorized with diamonds, as did many other stars.

Other stars who caught everyone’s attention included Diane Kruger, Nicole Richie, Katy Perry, Marion Cotillard, Tina Fey and more.   Katy Perry drew criticism for being a bit tacky for her over-the-top LED light-up gown, accessorized with a zigzag diamante necklace.  “Big Love” star Chloe Sevigny morphed a fashion wrong into fashion-forwardness with an eye-catching Proenza Schouler skating dress that was polo-necked, long-sleeved and teal.  Richie got a little flack for not experimenting with something than her usual Earth Mother Boho ensemble, while stars like Cotillard and Kruger went for classic Old Hollywood bridal styles in Calven Klein and Chanel.
