Anne Hathaway Wears Engagement Ring For Pizazz To Oscars

When Anne Hathaway was hosting the Oscars, she knew that all eyes would be on her, so of course she choose some beautiful dresses and some even more fantastic diamonds to help bring her look together.

While the pretty actress walked the red carpet we could not help staring at her stunning diamond ring. The ring looked exactly like an engagement ring yet was just not on the proper finger. It turns out these rings are part of the Tiffany’s engagement ring collection. She just happened to love it so much she wore it to the ceremony.

A stunning piece for sure, and we can openly gape at the beauty that it would be as an engagement ring. A 5-carat cushion cut diamond with pave design, and a huge sparkling colorless diamond. If its not being used as an engagement ring then I think the next best thing would be on the red carpet for the most important night in Hollywood. Good choice Hathaway!

There have, however, been more recent trends towards colorful jewelry to accent the red carpet ensembles. Jolie, Amy Adams, Heidi Klum and Phoebe Cates have all previously accessorized with colorful, vibrant gemstones on the red carpet.

Still No Oscar Gown and Jewels for Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock isn’t too concerned about finding the perfect gown and jewelry to wear to the Oscars.  She admitted this week that she still doesn’t know what she plans to wear to the ceremony, for which she’s considered the front-runner to win the Best Actress Oscar.

sandra bullockAt this week’s Oscar Nominees Luncheon, a prestigious photo-op event in and of itself, Bullock confided to reporters, “I’m so behind.  Today was the first day that I actually saw one dress and then looked at some sketches.”

Bullock is nominated this year for her role in the football drama, The Blind Side.  She is very clear that she puts her confidence in her coterie of designers, leaving them to make the dress and jewelry decisions look stunning.  “I’m pretty good about finding something and sort of circling around it and then I’m oddly relaxed about it because it’s someone else’s job to finely stitch thousands of pleats and jewels into a gorgeous thing to make you look divine.”

Bullock is known for her massive appeal to audiences across the globe.  She has a broad spectrum of supporters in Hollywood and the Academy, who consider Hollywood’s “nice girl”.  She is massively understated, also, when it comes to finding her Oscar gown and jewels.  “Look, if I have to wear a trash bag  I’ll belt it with rhinestones and I’ll make it work…But the one thing I saw, that’s a work of art.”  Everyone’s waiting to see what designers Bullock chooses.

Oscar Season Brings Out the Best Diamonds

As this year’s Oscar nominations were just announced this week, all of the best fashion designers, hair and make-up extraordinairres and  jewelry designers and experts are ready to descend upon nominees in a PR frenzy.  The Oscars are a chance for designers to catch the eye of nominees in order to gain free publicity as actors and actresses wear their items on the red carpet.

The phrase “Who are you wearing?” has taken hold over the years as actors, actresses and their PR teams carefully select exactly what will be worn on the red carpet.  Often the jewelry worn by nominees is on loan and  carefully guarded.   All jewelry comes with a free personal security guard, sometimes two.  When the lights accidentally went out one year at a post-Oscar party, comedian Joan Rivers joked that she never felt safer as her security guard briskly ushered her out a back door.

Some of the best Oscar jewelry of the decade includes Nicole Kidman’s rope-like sautoir necklace, worn in 2008.  The necklace was made from 1400 carats of rough, polished and faceted diamonds.  Diamonds are, of course, a premier choice for many Oscar nominees and presenters.  Anne Hathaway sported diamond bracelets from Van Cleef and Arpels in 2007, and also Naomi Watts donned a Chopard 85-carat triple strand diamond necklace, as well 12-carat diamond earrings.

Who knows what will be worn by nominees and presenters this year, but there will be sure to be more diamonds on the red carpet in the coming decade.
