Michelle Obama’s much-lauded Jason Wu Inaugural gown is being donated to the Smithsonian. The one-shouldered organza and chiffon dress will be part of a new gallery called “First Ladies Debut”, which will include eleven gowns worn by First Ladies. Also on display will be Obama’s Jimmy Choo shoes and jewelry by Loree Rodkin.
Known for her distinctive work on artisan-inspired pieces, Rodkin has not only the inaugural jewelry, but custom multi-strand beaded bracelets and pearl accessories to give the First Lady a classic look with a contemporary feel.
The exhibition will showcase each of the First Ladies from Mamie Eisenhower to Michelle Obama. It is part of the ongoing “First Ladies at the Smithsonian” exhibit where personal items and memorabilia, dresses, portraits and even china are on display for D.C. tourists to view. There are many notable items from Jackie Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, Grace Coolidge and more.
