Monique Lhuillier is one of those wedding gown designers you hear about everywhere in the celebrity world. Her wedding gowns have been used amongst countless celebs, including Kate Walsh and Ana Ortiz, and also in several films, including Our Family Wedding, starring America Ferrara.

Recently speaking to the Wedding Channel, Lhuillier divulged things she considers important in the wedding dress world.  Speaking of her custom-made wedding dress for America Ferrara in the film Our Family Wedding, Lhuillier said, “I love working with lace and other traditional fabrics and this dress is special because it combines two different designs. It’s a very diverse dress and very beautiful.”

Versatility and classic beauty are things found in many Lhuillier gowns. But Lhuillier also embraces contemporary trends. “Strapless is number one, but its nice to see brides trying on something different. A little bit of sleeve and a neckline other than strapless is nice.”

Speaking of recent trends, Lhuillier says she loves “the different tiers on ballgown sillouhettes and having the top layers shorter with a fuller skirt underneath. A lot of details make a dress special. The corset and skirt combo is nice with either the fuller or slim skirt.”

And about wedding trends she despises? “No matter how beautiful a wedding dress is, I don’t like the look of a stark white wedding dress.”
